In Motion

With its circular focal point and sweeping, colorful beams, "In Motion" by Hanna Jubran embodies the movement and unity of the universe - as well as the cycle of seasons here on Earth.

The sculpture's bright primary colors stand out against the natural backdrop of Town Square, where the piece is located, as well as the brick and wood façades of the Main Street businesses that face it to the north.

Motorists will enjoy "In Motion" as they round the corner of Main and Lombard streets, and Town Square's shade trees offer a natural retreat for visitors to relax and contemplate this abstract creation.

In MotionBe sure to check out the sculpture this summer, when plenty of bodies are sure to be in motion during the 2016 Downtown Clayton Town Square Concert Series!

In selecting pieces for this year's Clayton Sculpture Trail, the Public Art Advisory Board focused on bringing big, bold and colorful statues to Town, and Jubran's work fits that goal to a T. So it's no surprise that you can find two more of Jubran's sculptures on the trail - "Last Dance," which is located just on the other side of Town Square, and "In Motion 3" at the Clayton Community Center.

Jubran's vibrant metalwork has been a staple of the Clayton Sculpture Trail since its inception. The inaugural 2013 to 2014 trail featured "Primal Unity" and "Celestial Motion," and you can check out a video of his work "Life Cycle" from the 2014 to 2015 trail. Last year, Jubran's "Blue Cube" adorned the Front Street Roundabout.

Hanna Jubran with one of his sculpturesHanna Jubran is a Palestinian sculptor, born in Jish, in Upper Galilee. He received his Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is currently a Sculpture Professor at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Jubran's work addresses the concepts of time, movement, balance and space. Each sculpture occupies and creates its own reality influenced by its immediate surroundings. The work does not rely on one medium to evoke the intended response, but instead takes advantage of compatible materials such as wood, granite, steel, stainless steel, iron and bronze.

Jubran regularly participates in international art shows, competitions and symposiums. Each time Jubran participates in a symposium, the sculpture he creates is retained as part of the town or organization's permanent collection. Jubran is consistent in his pursuit of creating enjoyable sculptures for private and corporate collections. You can check out more of his work at his personal website.
