Blue Cube
Hanna Jubran
Grimesland, NC
The Public Art Advisory Board is proud to present this repeat artist for the public's enjoyment in the 3rd Annual Downtown Sculpture Trail.
Hanna Jubran has exhibited works on the Downtown Sculpture Trail since our inaugural year in 2013 and is pleased to return for the 3rd time with his abstract painted steel sculpture, "Blue Cube". It's a grand structure weighing 1,000 pounds, 10 feet in height, 10 feet in width and 10 feet in depth. Located on the Front Street Roundabout at the intersection of Front Street Extension and Bent Loop Road, make sure you include this in your public art tour around town.
Jubran's piece depicts the constant growth and rebirth in the universe. It expresses the cycle of life, growth and continuum. Although "Blue Cube" is painted specific colors, it changes depending on the time of day and season. It also changes as you move around the sculpture and its relation to the landscape. Between nature and the sculpture, Jubran says he is condensing time and space - they are ever-changing!
Jubran's first works in Clayton were "Primal Unity" and "Celestial Motion" on the 2013 to 2014 Downtown Sculpture Trail. You can check out the following video to see his 2014 to 2015 piece, "Life Cycle".
Hanna Jubran is a Palestinian sculptor, born in Jish, in Upper Galilee. He received his Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and is currently a Sculpture Professor at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Jubran's work addresses the concepts of time, movement, balance and space. Each sculpture occupies and creates its own reality, influenced by its immediate surroundings. The work does not rely on one medium to evoke the intended response, but takes advantage of compatible materials such as wood, granite, steel, stainless steel, iron and bronze.
Jubran regularly participates in international art shows, competitions and symposiums. Every symposium in which he participates, the sculpture created is retained as part of the town or organization's permanent collection. He is consistent in his pursuit of creating enjoyable sculptures for private and corporate collections. You can check out more of his work at his personal website.
