Oasis

A summer wind gently blows the cattails that line the bank of a pristine lake.

The sounds of birds singing from the trees float on the breeze.

Dragonflies dart back and forth catching insects for their supper.

A wood duck glides silently through the water.

This is 1 moment of pure relaxation.

"Oasis" is artist Cathy Perry's representation of this moment in time, fashioned in steel and formed to showcase this panorama.

OasisYou'll find this sculpture in the heart of Downtown Clayton on the east side of Horne Square, which is also showcasing "Harmonious Balance" and "Bare Bones" during this year's Clayton Sculpture Trail.

"Oasis" is one of the more whimsical pieces in this year's Clayton Sculpture Trail, and we expect it to be a popular spot for selfies and photos.

Cathy Perry lives just east of Greenville in a little town near the Pamlico River called Chocowinity. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual arts, sculpture and textiles from Western Kentucky University. She also has a degree in business administration from Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.

Cathy PerryYou may remember Perry's work from last year's sculpture trail, which featured her piece called "Spirit Tree" in Horne Square.

Perry's work consists of bronze and aluminum cast sculpture and large outdoor fabricated steel sculptures.

She plans to continue teaching sculpture and art foundation courses along with creating her art.
